Heather completed her Bachelors of Science in Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa in 2014. She is continuing her studies at uOttawa, and is currently completing a Masters of Arts in Human Kinetics under the supervision of Michael Robidoux and Courtney Mason. Heather was a recipient of both the Students for Canada’s North scholarship, and the Alex Trebek Innovation and Challenge Fund. With this funding she helped initiate a community greenhouse project in the community of Wapekeka First Nation in Northern Ontario. Through this project, she is conducting research focusing on Indigenous food security in remote First Nations, particularly in respect to understanding local food procurement as a means of addressing food insecurity in the north. Heather worked in the community for two and a half weeks in May 2017, and will be going back to complete her fieldwork, and document yields from the greenhouse in September 2017.
