Pate completed his Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Adventure Business and Entrepreneurship at TRU. He finished his undergraduate research project supervised by Courtney. It focuses on conflict resolution strategies for multi-use trail systems. His research seeks to help facility managers better integrate new trail users to existing trail systems, specifically looking at the introduction of fat bikes to cross-country ski facilities. Pate is an aspiring ski guide, and during the summers he works as a hiking and paddling guide in Kootenay National Park.  Pate received the Undergraduate Research Experience Award in early 2017.  In the fall of 2017, he started his Master’s in Environmental Science at TRU where he is working on sustainable management of trail systems in alpine environments. Pate was recently awarded both the TRU Graduate Mentor Award and the Canada Graduate Scholarship (SSHRC) for 2017-2018.
